What to Expect

Those of us who worship together at Midland Church of the Brethren are Christians with a true belief in the Family of God and the sanctity of Life. We stand for the Risen Lord and Savior.  We regularly worship together in loving fellowship.

The Brethren of Midland maintain that the entire Bible (Old Testament and New Testament) is the inspired Word of God and that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who gave His life as a sacrifice for our sins.  We also believe that Jesus rose from the dead on the third day and that He has ascended into heaven where He intercedes on our behalf.

Having ascended into heaven,  Jesus sent His Holy Spirit to live in the hearts of His people as our comforter, counselor and friend.  We believe that those who have acknowledged Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior will have the assurance of a home in heaven with Christ for all eternity.

Brethren believe that “church” is the people and not the building.  So worship is something the people do together rather than something that is done for them.  Our worship services blend traditional and contemporary elements.  They include special time with the children.  We read scripture together and the sermon is biblically based.  Our music, prayers, and litanies encourage women and men of all ages to participate fully and equally. All are welcome!

We worship because it is important to do so.  By gathering together and turning our praise and prayers toward God who is both beyond and within people we join Jesus’ calling: To love God with everything we’ve got; and to love our neighbor as ourselves.

Some of us dress casually while others wear formal attire. Generally, you will be welcomed and cared for by people who are friendly, unassuming, and genuinely happy to see you
